Not quite where I want it to be but good enough to share.

I wanted to see what #Flathub moving to OCI would look like then realized we could just test that. Using zstd:chunked and all that fancy jazz. Haven't had enough time to measure equivalent downloads size yet.

chunka is pretty awesome, tweaked from the default 64 layers to having it match what it thinks it should for the app's size. Most apps will probably have way less and bootc images way more?

Then I got the idea to just import apps that we know need runtime updates, import them, and try to build them - then we can test a real #flatpak without being an expert.

If you're a #linux desktop user then you should be happy that both #kde and #gnome have reference artifacts, aka an operating system.

It raises the bar for everyone who thinks that they can deliver a better experience than upstream. And given the current state of the market share situation it is clear that the existing gatekeepers need the gut check.

The old school distribution model needs to prove it can do a better job than the people who write the software. We're about to find out. Best infrastructure wins.

I would have never known this. #863, top 50% on an index of the largest OSS projects in the world. Little #Bluefin !

People on reddit just guessing based on distrowatch or some other pseudo metric. The more we measure, the better the OSS map fills up.

We need that to figure out where best to invest in our projects!
